GOLD MINING
At the confluence of the Mai Kha and Mali Kha rivers in Upper
Burma is the source of the Irrawaddy river that flows 1325 miles
through Burma to Rangoon. The source of the Irrawaddy is also
the source of a new gold find along the banks of the two tributaries.
I spent an afternoon at one part of the river unable to travel
further.
The nearby town of Myitkyina has a Klondyke
feel with truck loads of miners heading out of town to mine for
gold and jadite. The area is the source of the finest Jade, known
asImperial Jade. I hope to make a return journey.
