THE KAREN
There are over a hundred thousand Karen refugees in eight camps
stretched out along the Thai-Burma border. Another hundred thousand
people are displaced in Thai villages, forests, farms, plantations
and work places. More than double that number of Karen are displaced
inside Burma.
For refugees in the camps there are sympathetic donor groups
and organisations. For those dispersed in Thailand outside of
the camps, they may have a chance of survival, though there are
many risks involved.
But it is the Internally displaced people, who are in most desperate
need of help, moving from place to place, deprived of proper shelter,
material, food and medicine, always in danger of being spotted
by the search-and-kill military units, it can only be a matter
of conjecture how long they can persevere and survive
