15 Year old Yea shwee (Golden Brave) Conscripted
by SPDC forces in Rangoon when he was 13, from a southern delta
farming family he was inducted into the 207 Light Infantry and
sent to Mon state. There he was given training as a porter then
sent to a frontline detachment fighting in the Doanna mountians.
Four months ago whilst close to the Thai border, he made an escape
along with four other porters heading for the Moie river in the
direction of the rising sun. During the three day journey, two
of his comrades stepped on mines fatally wounding one and critically
wounding the other who was unable to continue. Seperated from
the other two, he finally made it to the border and a logging
plant that assisted him in making contact with the KNU. He has
spent the past three months undergoinmg retraining at a KNU military
camp inside Karen State. January 1999.
